Trustees
Age UK Wigan Borough is seeking new trustees to join their Board of Directors and make a real difference to the lives of older people in the area.
We have been active in Wigan Borough for over 30 years and estimate we have worked with over 150,000 older people during this time. We are an independent charity and Company Limited by Guarantee and reach the Age UK Quality Standard, enabling us to join a network of 115 local Age UKs.
The role of a trustee is voluntary and unpaid. However, reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
This experience is particularly suitable for people who may be interested in developing Non-Executive Directorships in the future, as it can give valuable experience at the Board level.
Specific Skills Required
We have identified the following gaps among our current trustees:
- Knowledge and experience of HR issues.
- Knowledge and experience of the Wigan/Greater Manchester voluntary sector.
- Knowledge of Age UK.
- Knowledge of Finance and Risk Management. In particular, to sit on the Finance & Risk committee which looks in greater detail at our financial and strategic risks.
However, we would still be interested in hearing from you if you do not have any of these specific areas, if you feel you have plenty to offer our organisation.
We are also aware that we would like a diverse range of trustees and we currently would like more representatives from:
- Women.
- People with lived experience of ageing, caring, disability or poverty.
- Under-represented communities in Wigan Borough.
- People at different stages in their career (including early-career professionals).
