Mentor
Mentoring allows you to make a real difference to the lives of young people.
A mentor helps others achieve their potential. They act as a positive adult role model to young people at risk, providing a one-to-one personal relationship that encourages them to keep working on areas that may cause them to offend or be a barrier to success.
What does the role involve?
Being a mentor requires you to take an interest in the young person you’re working with and ensure they have the extra support and guidance they need. This involves:
- Having regular meetings with a young person
- Providing a young person with support to move towards employment, education or training
- Supporting a young person to identify goals and targets to work towards
- Empowering them to make their own decisions about their development
- Signposting them to other organisations for support.
