Role and Opportunity Details
Are you a Wigan Council tenant looking to make a real difference in your community? We’re looking for tenants to join our Housing Advisory Panel to help shape the future of services and influence local issues. This joint panel of tenants and Councillors will look at all aspects of housing and has already made tremendous steps to help reduce the time it takes to re-let properties.
What will you do? Act in the best interests of Wigan Council and our tenants / Provide leadership and support to the executive management team and challenge issues in a constructive manner / Participate in constructive decision making with the aim of reaching a consensus / Accept joint responsibility for panel decisions / Ensure that confidentiality of all information is maintained / Sign and adhere to the Member Code of Conduct as operated by Wigan Council / Ensure regular attendance at Panel meetings and forums, preparing for and fully participating in them / Be available to attend evening meetings/weekend events
Specific Skills Required
Who can apply? Tenants of a Wigan Council estate. Experience in active community work or regular volunteering and of working as part of a team. Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and reach consensus in decision making. Awareness of the issues facing tenants and prospective tenants of Wigan Council.
